the first week

day 1
a good day for everyone. andy slept well even during the night; waking up only for feeding or changing.

day 2
we had a series of visits. in the morning ate alex, kuya karol and lola viela came with daddy. then in the afternoon babka, tita lucia, and tito peter came. followed by dedko.

andy spent most of the day sleeping. but then we stayed awake from midnight until four in the morning. she didn't sleep until after having her first taste of formula milk :(

day 3
a very good day. andy was checked by the pedia for the first time and said everything is good. the head ob also gave us a go ahead to go home the following day. :) milk started coming in the afternoon. best of all, we slept much better during the night.

day 4
last day at the hospital... time to go home! yey!

at home, the "yey!" faded away as night came. it was a hard night. she stayed awake and crying until she got tired. she was probably tired from all the activities in the morning, preparing for our discharge, picture taking, travel, etc.. plus, she was probably adjusting to the different kind of environment and noise at home. lastly, she didn't make uu the whole day :(

day 5
andy made her first real uu! :) which probably helped in having a peaceful night.

day 7
pedia's home visit. everything was ok except for two things. andy was still yellow with jaundice but not something to be alarmed about. second, her tear ducts on the left eye is probably clogged and she had hard time opening eyes the previous mornings. pedia just advised a little massage.

her name

the original idea was to give her a filipino name. from several filipino names, we came down with two favorites -- marikita (pretty) and maya (sparrow). matej liked marikita and even thought of the nickname riki. yes, a boy sounding name which goes perfectly with the ongoing theme of our children's names. on the other hand, i favored maya attributing to the fact that she seemed small in her ultrasound for her gestational age.

then, there was the matter of the second name. me and my sibblings, we all have saint names based on the calendar. this tradition was continued with alex and karol; neri (st. phillip neri) and andrej (st. andrew) respectively. for andy, we only have to choose names among three dates/feast days:
* 11 november st. martin of tours - martie
* 12 november st. josaphat - josie
* 13 november st. frances xavier cabrini - frances (our favorite ;)

we also considered georgina for a first name. matej liked the sound of it and i liked the nick that goes with it -- george! :D but then, we remembered the very first name we thought of a long time ago -- andrea (andy for short)!

luckily, i didn't give birth before the scheduled date. so there you go... we ended up naming our baby frances andrea! definitely a winning combination! :)

her birth

d-minus 3 days
it was wednesday; check up day with the ob. surprise! surprise! cervix is already 2cm dilated. so it was agreed that if mommy doesn't deliver by week's end, labor will be induced.

nerve wracking days
* spent wondering if labor will start any minute, during the night, etc.
* hard times choosing baby names, which was very hard considering it depends on what day she will be born.
* having second thoughts; to induce or not to induce, that is the question!

d-day
finally, decided to induce labor.
07:45 am: arrived at the hospital
08:15 am: labor was induced
10:30 am: light contractions started
11:45 am: strong contractions
12:38 pm: frances andrea was born :)

welcome frances andrea!
